The Medlin to Open January 2nd

Longtime bar industry owners and operators Brandon and Amanda LaRoque are putting in long hours this month to ready a new bar on Medlin Drive described as an “eclectic neighborhood bar for everyone”.

When asked “why open another bar?” (the LaRoques own/have owned The Goat, The Bison, Ugly Monkey), Amanda says the couple has always wanted to open a bar in the area so when the space became available, they moved in. Years ago when both were area bartenders, this area off of Dixie Trail was where everyone would meet up to wind down.

The LaRoques named this new concept “The Medlin” in recognition of the area and its history in Raleigh, breaking the tradition of animal names. The bar will officially open in 2015 on January 2, featuring 250 beers, 14 on draft, and a large cocktail offering, an will be open from 4 p.m. until 2 a.m. every day of the week.

Early word is that Saturday night will feature all liquor on special for only $4.00.

The bar will display 12 televisions, a few video games (MegaTouch and Big Buck Hunter). Hanging from the ceiling are over 3,000 tap handles that Brandon has collected from several bars that have closed in Raleigh (Sadlacks, PB’s, High Five and others). Knowing him to be a collector, many friends and family have also provided tap handles from all over the country and world.
